How Do I Get Rid of This Kitchen Rodent?!

Hi! Happy long weekend to my American friends! Happy random blog post day to everyone else!

So… the ants are almost under control. It’s going to take about 2 weeks though. They’ll be gone for a bit and then be back the next day. Fantastic.

And now I have some kind of other infestation…

I’m still missing a drawer from trying to paint the kitchen last weekend. One drawer fell apart and needs to be fixed. So for right now there is a hole in the wall where that drawer belongs.

And something has decided to make itself at home in that hole!!!

Ha! Vegas is always doing funny things. I am not like a super weird cat lady, I’m only a semi-weird cat lady. This means I don’t treat Vegas like a king – I treat him like a court jester there to entertain me – and he really does!!

The other day I put him in a clear tupperware storage container and he started purring?! I think he likes when I mess with him. It’s how I show love.

I don’t know where I was going with this but yeah. He’s funny.

my cat is the best (450x800)

Okay wait. I just realized I am a super weird cat person because I stopped to say ‘hi’ to Toby on my run yesterday. I will admit that is creeper status.

running blog sept 8 (450x800)

After my run I did a short yoga video…

and then ate watermelon.

running blog sept 3 (450x800)

And I have been craving Yogurtland like crazy so I had to get some. Those are some good eats!!

running blog sept 1 (450x800)

It is soooo sooo soooo gorgeous here this weekend.

Now I’m headed to a BBQ with my family. What are you up to this weekend??

running blog sept 7 (450x800)

Question: Do you think I should get another cat so I’ll have twice as much entertainment?

Mt Tallac Summit Hike

[PSA: "like" my blog's Facebook page to get tips and updates on my blog posts in your news feed.] Ahh, the slow, deep breath that is a holiday weekend. M and I came up to the mountains and I enjoyed a break from the busyness of wrapping up summer. The kids are back in school (that sure snuck up on us!) and soccer season has started.  Also, I've made a work-related change, recently starting a

Why I’m Forced To Do Another Capsule Wardrobe

Hi! How’s it going? Are you celebrating Labor Day weekend with a BBQ or labor (as actual labor having  baby)? I ran my long run on Friday because I was going to head out of town this weekend. Those plans fell through last minute, but I’m glad I had that crossed off my ‘To Do’ list.

fitness blog sept 19 (450x800)

Such a gorgeous day for a run! I love it.

fitness blog sept 10 (800x450)

Fuel for the journey was Chinese food the night before. This is my favorite pre-race meal. I added a bag of frozen veggies when I got this home though! I got a 2 item combo and figured I didn’t want to ‘waste’ one of my entrĂ©e choices on veggies when I had some at home.

fitness blog sept 21 (800x450)

So this morning I got up to do a short shake out run before a good stretch/yoga session.

I hit the road for about 7 miles. It was fairly slow and steady and I walked for a little bit when I got a phone call from my mamacita.

fitness blog sept 13 (450x800)

When I got back I went to my dresser to grab another sports bra and shirt. (I usually change out of my super sweaty stuff when I get back from a run before I stretch or do yoga.)

But I discovered six BILLION ants streaming into my place! SIX.BILLION. (give or take I didn’t count them all)

Ugh! I grabbed the ant spray and sprayed them and tried to figure out where they were coming from. There was a huge line of them coming from the cracks in the bedroom floorboard. I’m pretty sure they were coming from the neighbors place – probably because they sprayed them over there!

ants everywhere (800x450)

The kind of bad thing is they don’t want food, they want water so they were heading to the bathroom AND kitchen in search of H2O. So, instead of doing yoga I had to deal with the ant problem. I use a hippie bug spray – EcoSmart. It works really well but the smell is still strong (it’s peppermint and rosemary oil).

And just when I thought I had it under control – I noticed some ants in the closet!  I saw a ton of them on the wall behind my clothes. Ugh! I had to take all my clothes out of the closet and put them on my bed so I could clean in there.

There was a slight miscommunication though and Vegas thought I put all the stuff out so he could cover it in fur. Fantastic.

fitness blog sept 7 (800x450)

He looks so cute when he sleeps though! He’s lucky I was going to wash everything anyway because I don’t want to feel like I have ants all over my clothes. I’m itchy just thinking about it.

So, I guess it’s time for me to do another Capsule Wardrobe! Might as well, right? I’m not putting anything back in the closet that I don’t want to wear. And since it’s almost Fall I think it’s a good time to do another closet clean out. Do you switch stuff out each season? I don’t really need to since I live in southern California so it’s not like I need snow clothes (or whatever you call them) but I get cold all the time.

fitness blog sept 6 (800x450)

Since I was cleaning all day and needed to get out. So, I threw on some make-up and a sundress and out the heck outta there!

fitness blog sept (450x800)

Note the background in the picture below – my closet is empty. Would you have noticed that otherwise?

I totally wouldn’t have if it was someone else. I’m super not observant.

fitness blog sept 3 (600x800)

Now I’m sipping Spark trying to rehydrate before I get my act together and try to be productive. Speaking of that – Limeade Spark is a permanent flavor now, but I haven’t tried it yet – have you? SR said she didn’t like it but I usually love lime stuff.

Non-Running Items I NEED For Half and Full Marathon Training

A list of surprising things I use during marathon and half marathon training. These are everyday items that I’ve come to need when I run. Do you use anything random like this during training or running?

Hello! How’s it going? Over here it was going great until… I saw a SNAKE on my run. What the heck.

I was just running along listening to a  podcast when I spotted a big thing moving across the path a little ways up. I couldn’t recognize it at first because it was the same color as the gravel but as I got closer I realized it was a pretty big snake moving fast across the path. I stopped in my tracks running shoes and had a mini-heart attack.

Then, I recovered and tried to catch my breath and let my heart rate go down as I updated Instagram. The people had to know!

Post-run I made a super thick green smoothie. The key to thickness is eating a lot of pizza. The key to thickness in a smoothie is a lot of ice and frozen spinach.

This weekend during my long run I snapped a picture of some of my mid-run fuel – Ricola drops. This reminded me that I’ve been meaning to share a list of the things I use while running all the time – but these aren’t really running specific items or considered running gear.

These are everyday kind of things that I NEED while running. It’s kind of random, but I use them all the time. Check it out and let me know if you use anything that’s not runner specific, but helps you run too!

Non-Running Items I Use During Half & Full Marathon Training

– Paper towels.

Why –> My nose runs when I run. This is actually a fairly common problem for runners. But, I am not good at snot rockets. So I always have a paper towel tucked somewhere to wipe my mocos while running.

Yeah, sometimes runners Monicans are gross. Running isn’t pretty, but it’s pretty awesome.

paper towels running tip (800x450)

Ricola cough drops.

Why –> I like that they make my throat feel all clear and fresh. It opens up my air passages and gives me a tiny kick of sugar.

running blog hack tips (450x800)

– Beach towel

Why –> I am the sweatiest sweaty runner of your life. Trust me. When I drive somewhere to run I need a big beach towel to cover my car seat for the way home.

Spark

Why –> Running takes a lot out of you! Spark is my favorite energy drink. I sip this mid-morning during the week to help avoid a mid-day slump – I’m a lot more fatigued during marathon training so this really helps. I’ve also been known to drink it to rehydrate right after a run.

(They also sell a Rehydrate drink that’s good, but I always have Spark around so I usually just use that.)

non running must haves (450x800)

*My favorite flavors are fruit punch and mango strawberry.

– Spray sunblock

Why –> I use spray sunblock to make sure I get the part in my hair. This can be an overlooked area when applying sunblock!

– Ginger chews

Why –> Ginger is great for settling your stomach. And ginger chews have sugar and ginger so it’s a good option to settle my stomach before a race.

– Vitamins

Why –> Training for a race requires you to really push yourself. You are doing things an athlete does – so you need to treat yourself like an athlete. This includes getting enough rest and eating well. Although I do eat healthy, my diet is not perfect so to make sure I’m getting in vitamins I take a supplement.

– Watermelon

Why –> It makes me happy. Oh, and it’s good for you.

But mainly because I deserve something delicious after all that running!

And the #1 running / training NEED:  Ice cream.

Enchiladas are Spanish for ‘An Excuse to Eat Tons of Cheese’

Hello! Welcome to September! Are you ready to rock the last four months of the year? We can make some big improvements and hit some big goals in that time. This morning I hit the road for 10 miles. It was an easy paced run while I listened to podcasts about running.

half marathon training plan (450x800)

I spotted the horse this morning too! It’s so random that I knew there were horse trails around but never saw them and now I’ve seen this horse (and her owner) three times now. I always run this path and never saw it before. This morning I stopped to take a picture and told the horse rider she was gorgeous!

After running and eating I ran some errands. One of the stops was to See’s Candy. I LOVE that they always give you a sample. They have the best chocolate.

Remember that crockpot chicken I made for tacos yesterday?

Well, today I used the shredded chicken to make enchiladas. I added some mushrooms to them. And I used so much cheese. That’s the secret to good enchiladas (actually that’s the secret to life) ALL THE CHEESE!

They came out so good! The combination of the seasoned chicken and roasted salsa made these super tasty.

And then I hit the town for a few drinks out. I got ready while sipping a skinny margarita since I had the idea in my head from my taco post.
