Why I Can’t Be a Food Blogger

Hello from Napa! I am here for an event with Panasonic. This post is going to be loaded with pictures – but that’s kinda the best, right? Before we get to all that food and fun, let’s recap my Pile on the Miles day 2 run.

I woke up at 5am to get in an upper body workout with Beach Body on demand and then ran about 3 miles. It was super dark out around 6am. You super early morning runners better be careful! Even if you’re used to it, stay alert and aware.

I showered, grabbed breakfast and was off to the airport in record time. I did my makeup in the airport restroom. That was part of the plan to buy me more time to run and eat before I had to go.

The flight from Orange County to San Francisco is only one hour. We were wheels up and down in no time.

The flight wasn’t full so I had room to stretch my IT band. It’s really the little things that make me happy.

The drive to Napa from SFO was longer than the flight!

I used the time to catch up on email and sip Green Apple Spark. I really liked this flavor!

The company sent it to me as a promo with my last Advo order. I would have not normally ordered green apple, but I am super happy with it. I would definitely get it again.

Now onto the event…

I am in Napa for an event with Panasonic to promote their new Countertop Induction Oven. It’s a super fancy, super fast, compact oven you can use to grill, bake and cook.

We met at the Culinary Institute of America.

The first event of the day was lunch – um, lunch at the Culinary Institute of Arts? Yes. It was amazing.

I used to go to a lot of food blog events, but now get invited to more running or travel blog trips. I love food bloggers because they love food. When you talk to them about a restaurant or dish or celebrity chef they get super excited.  I’m always excited about food, so I love that.

But I could never be a fancy food blogger because their photography is on another level. They can take a pile of beans and make it look like a mountain of gold. I got a sneak peek into how they do it when lunch was brought out and everyone busted out their travel lights to take pics for Instagram and their blogs. Plus, they had multiple cameras. (I use my phone with the smudged lens from my makeup.)

From there we had a cooking demonstration with Chef Gabe Kennedy. He used the Panasonic Induction Oven to cook a head of cauliflower, whole fish and lamb (separate dishes).

I saw this in the gift shop and had to buy it. It’s a quick guide to nutrition. Most of it is stuff I know, but there are some great tips on vitamins, food combinations and other info.

You Are Accused of Running Just Enough

Hello! How is your week so far? Did you pile on some miles yesterday? I did.

pile on the miles day 2 1 (600x800)

I ran 10 miles at a slow pace while listening to a running podcast.

I spent all last week listening to the true crime podcast, Accused.  The Crime Writers On podcasters told me it was amazing and were reviewing it in a recent episode on their show. Well, it was good but not great. I just don’t think anything can compete with Serial season 1. Sarah Koenig is just such an amazing storyteller. She really made listeners get lost in the story and care about what was happening and the people who were there (so many people hated Jay).

pile on the miles day 2 (450x800)

Moral of the story: Accused is good, but not great. It fills the Serial sized hole in your heart (if you have one). The  story is unsolved but not as involved as Serial.

Did anyone else listen to this one?

It was a perfect morning for a run. I love Fall running. I think it’s the best season for long runs.

Post-run breakfast: eggs, tortillas and a side of Real Housewives of the OC. Damn those girls. Why can’t these ladies get along? Is it totally fake or fueled by the producers (it must be, I’m dumb for asking that, right?).

eggs and remote (800x450)

what now

who does that

Before my run this morning Vegas was begging for food so I filled up his bowl. But for whatever reason he thought it would be better to just eat from the tupperware I use to store his food. NOT.COOL.

i have a bad cat (450x800)

I feel like I am going to be a bad mom because I am super anti- cats on the table, but as soon as he got up there I took a picture instead of throwing him off. I need to stay consistent in my rules! (Unless it’s a super cute photo.)

I also let him attack the rotisserie chicken I bought the other day. I couldn’t pull the meat off because it was kinda gross (that never happens). I hate wasting food so I gave it to Vegas and told him it was Thanksgiving. (Don’t tell him it’s not really Thanksgiving, he really enjoys celebrating the holidays.)

chicken and cat (450x800)

I had a long day that included a very cathartic therapy session. That’s good! But now I’m dehydrated and exhausted.

The cure for all my woes?

Dark chocolate covered walnuts. Because they’re healthy. Winking smile

Day In the Life: Straight Cheesin’

It’s been a while since I’ve done a day in the life of post, and today was a fun one, so I want to share!

6:27: Alarm goes off. I’d intended on running but couldn’t, for the life of me, remember that so poke around on the ClassPass app but find nothing that appeals to me. (I have no idea what magical unicorn workout I was looking for.)

7:15: Wake up again, mad that it’s too late to run OR make a class. Decide to snuggle with Bailey instead.

dreamdry blowout

7:32: I’m shooting a video thing for work, so I decide I “need” a blowout. I’m working on it, but my body confidence ain’t where it used to be, so let’s go with the hair. Call DreamDry, get a last-minute appointment. YAS

Somewhere in between there: walk Bailey, decide, crap, I need to find an outfit (decide on jeans, blazer and a StitchFix blouse), apply a little makeup. (I know I’ll reapply before I’m on camera anyway, so I don’t apply much.)

7:58: Walk over to DreamDry, thanking my lucky stars they’re within blocks of me; hope they have coffee. (My thoughts at this time: they have bubbly in the afternoon, they HAVE to have coffee in the morning, RIGHT? RIGHT?) (They have coffee.) Show up with my hair sort of curled from yesterday with my wand, ask for the more polished version of this.

Vacillate between thinking: this is a colossal waste of money for something that’s going to wash out and…”hey, this will make me feel happy and confident, and costs less than a therapy session…”

8:58: Walk to work on Cloud 9, staring at myself in window mirrors, remembering how HAPPY a good blowout makes me.

9:00 – 9:45: Eat breakfast of Larabar + banana + more espresso at work; watch our show on one monitor; start other work on laptop monitor.

10:00 – 11:15: Start ticking things off my to-do list while simultaneously trying to prep myself for segment.

11:15 – 11:30: Start gathering things, reapply makeup.

flatiron building

11:30: Walk down to the Flatiron Building, where the show, Cheddar Life, a lifestyle show on Facebook for millenials (I have never typed such a 2016 phrase in my life) is hosted, blasting Pink’s F*cking Perfect in my headphones, followed by Shut Up and Dance to pump me up.

theodora preppy runner cheddar life

(I’m usually kind of bad at smiling in selfies…but this is a screenshot from me talking in an IG story, so there’s that.)

cheddar life show

11:45 – 12:18: Pace, stare at the taco fellows before me, hope they will leave me some tacos, tag mom on FB so she can watch, text her to make sure she understands what that means.

Cheddar Life Daily Burn Theodora Blanchfield

(Secret: I have a teeny tiny piece of paper just behind that Cheddar sign with a few talking points I wanted to really make sure to hit.)

12:20 – 12:28ish: Talk about Daily Burn! Try to ignore that usually about 50K people watch their show!  Honestly, I’m really proud of how it went! I got in all my talking points, didn’t get flustered when I got asked a question I couldn’t answer (as in, talking about stuff that’s still confidential. MY LIPS WERE ZIPPED) and even managed to crack a few jokes! I don’t even care if anyone else found them funny. You can watch me here if you want. I start around 28:00 in.)

12:30 – 12:45: Walk back to work, call parents, grin at a text from a friend/former coworker who told me I did awesome, pick up lunch from my fave place, Inday (fast/healthy Indian-ish.)

12:45 – 2:00:

via GIPHY

2:00 – 2:30: Weekly marketing team meeting

2:30 – 3:00: Scrambling to fit in some more work

3:00 – 5:15ish: Take a Final Cut Pro (video editing class)! It’s a skill I’ve always wanted, and as our production team gets busier, I have volunteered to try to cut some of my own social video from our daily show. It seems hard and overwhelming but I’m really excited to dive in. Must remember glasses on editing days because I felt my 11s in my forehead getting deeper already today.

5:15 – 7:00: Attempt to catch up on work from super busy day…and kind of enjoy the quiet of the office after most people have left. Go home, walk Bailey.

7:30: Go to the gym for a quick run on the treadmill. The wireless headphones I’m trying out for work haven’t fully charged and I’m left headphoneless on the treadmill. Truly contemplate going back home for headphones, but decide to play with lots and lots of intervals on the treadmill and set a calorie goal for myself on my watch to keep me occupied. We’re doing a push-up challenge at work, so I decide to see what my baseline is for how many push-ups I can do at once with good form. 15 today. I follow this with some planks and reverse crunches since I’m already down on the floor…

Multi llama j crew

8:15ish – now: Get home to LLAMA shirt + BeautyCounter goods I’d ordered, order a poke bowl for dinner, resolve to go grocery shopping tomorrow, write this post. Now I’m off to fold some laundry, snuggle with Bailey and take a bath before I go to sleep, happy with a full day.

How was your Tuesday?

Pile on the Miles Day 1

Hello! Happy November 1st! Are you ready to rock this running challenge? Pile on the Miles starts TODAY. Let’s do this!

Yesterday Vegas and I put on our very elaborate Halloween costumes to give away candy.

cat sombrero

This was my costume this year…

I had a ‘real’ costume but wasn’t super motivated to get dressed up in anything that took effort. So, I found these ears in my ‘random box’ in my closet (it has wrapping paper, craft stuff and Santa hats – it is really random). Boom. Costume done and done.

running challenge day 1 3 (480x640)

My favorite part of the night was when a teen trick-or-treater asked, “Are you Karen from Mean Girls?”

“Duh” I said and pointed to my ears.

Her friend told me to wear pink on Wednesday. Ha!

im a mouse

I think giving away candy is just as fun as trick-or-treating when I was a kid. Anyone else love it?

Right now I’m sipping iced coffee and eating cereal while writing this post. I am going to try and get the POTM posts done the day before so my friends on the other side of the world can check in a little earlier. I am on Pacific time and I know that’s kinda late to the party. But it’s only 5am here – so that’s super early too! Time is confusing.

To blog or not to blog

What a gorgeous Halloween morning!

We usually get rain every year for Halloween; but today happens to be great weather for trick-or-treating. I'm looking forward to passing out candy while I watch scary movies in the garage. Halloween still feels weird without Mark--this will be the third one without him! I can't believe it's been that long.
