Happy week-between-Christmas-and-New-Year’s!
Who’s working this week and who’s off/staycationing? I’d originally taken off today to spend my mom’s birthday with her, but her doctors decided she should spend today with a needle in her arm, so she talked me into not taking it for her. I’ll be spending likely every third week with her, so I settled for going to work and face timing with her several times.
I am such a vacation day hoarder (I’ll be carrying over more than two weeks into 2016…), but I decided to plan a good mental health day/vacation day for myself for Wednesday. I’m getting a nice long massage, having lunch with a friend and probably taking some kind of workout class. (Definitely a workout class. Who are we kidding?!) As much as I felt like it was a bit of a waste to take a vacation day when the office is kind of empty, it’s nice to not even be distracted by my work email blowing up while taking a vacation day.
When I did my Fitbit giveaway last week (I just emailed the winner, btw), I asked what all you wanted to see on this blog. I still really enjoy blogging, but after nearly seven years, I sort of wonder sometimes if what I’m writing is still want you want to be reading. Over the past year or so, I’ve also found that my more serious/introspective stuff is what’s resonated well with you all, but I don’t just want to write that. Yet, when I sit down to write, it’s sometimes hard to follow up a deep post with “and here’s what I did today!” so I’ve felt a little stuck. But it seems like some of you like day-to-day stuff and some like the serious stuff. I have some ideas for 2016 and my blog that I’m still working on, but I hope to carve out some more time to devote to my blog and vary my content a bit better.
(Anyone still here? Cool.)
Last night, I had a super cool NYC experience. A coworker had been invited by Waterford to see the famous ball in Times Square (you know, the one that drops at midnight.) I’d originally invited my mom, but she wasn’t feeling the crowds (anddddd when I got off the subway in Times Square and remembered why I stay away from there…I felt the same.) Yesterday, Waterford installed nearly 300 new crystal panels on the ball. Apparently nearly 1 billion people worldwide watch it drop!
After waiting in line for nearly half an hour at the Walgreens downstairs, we took the elevator up to the top of One Times Square, where we were escorted into a little holding room with a kind gentleman serving us champagne. We walked up another flight of stairs, and were looking down at Times Square. I don’t really have a fear of heights, but it’s definitely weird being that high up. The roof’s floor was made of metal grates, and Heather commented that it felt like we were in a fight scene from some action movie. (And all of a sudden, I wanted to get down immediately.)
But first, a selfie in the light of the ball.
It was one of those really cool NYC moments. I’m not sure yet what I’m doing for New Year’s yet, but I sure as hell won’t be getting near Times Square, that’s for sure.
What are you doing for New Year’s? What’s your ideal New Year’s? (Also, what would you do with a random vacation day if you were going to spend it staying in town?)
