I don’t know why, but I had the out-of-the-blue idea to make fondue for dinner last night. It’s super random because:
a.) I’m not a huge fondue person (only been once at a restaurant)
b.) I don’t have the proper equipment to make it
c.) I had no idea how one makes fondue
d.) I’m lactose intolerant … Just kidding, but that would have been the worst.
Anyway.
I was walking around the grocery store and decided “Tonight is fondue night!”. I quickly looked up an easy fondue recipe on my phone and was on a mission. I don’t have a fondue pot or long forks or any prior knowledge of fondue etiquette – but I made it work.
To make it more interesting I didn’t have all the ingredients the recipe required, but I didn’t want to buy mustard powder just for this. I ended up using low fat dairy products in this fondue so I’m sure it’s a littler lower in calories than the usual stuff.
Easy Fondue Recipe
Into a pan went:
- 1.5 cups lf milk
- dollop of mustard
- garlic powder & pepper
- soy sauce OR Bragg’s liquid aminos
- brought to just under a boil and then I added 12 oz. of shredded cheese (it was a mix from TJ’s)
Stir until it’s all incorporated and thickens. I kept stirring so it didn’t get lumpy or weird.
I served it was a fancy salad just like they do at The Melting Pot.
And because I don’t have a fondue pot / set / whatever you call it I put the pot of cheese in a bigger pot of HOT water. I’m not fancy. It still tasted amazing!!
I used all gluten free dippers too – rice crackers, gluten free rolls, gluten free bagel thins (not great), cauliflower…
It was so good! Make it and impress your friends
Try it and let me know if you love it / hate it / impressed a date / get your cat to love you more by buying their love with cheese…
Yes, I know cats can’t eat cheese ( or at least someone just told me that). But Vegas isn’t a cat, he’s a tiny tiger in a cat’s body. And tigers think cheese is GGGGRREAT!
Question: What are you up to this weekend?
