That Time I Was Attacked In Florida

Well, I don’t even know where to start. I had a near death experience today and I am still coming down. I feel my adrenaline pumping and I can’t seem to get back to a calm place. It happened just after a run. I am aware that running alone can be dangerous. Running in Florida alone can be dangerous for reasons beyond getting hit by a car or attacked by a crazy person.

Running in Florida also adds the additional risk of:

falling  (why do I trip so often when I visit here?!)

alligator attacks

bug bites (I think because I smell like watermelon)

drowning in your own sweat (yes, I’m that sweaty)

getting struck by lightening (more than anywhere else at least)

But today none of those things happened on my 5 mile run (plus 4 strides at the end). Today I faced an entirely different predator, much more scary than an alligator because it moves faster and sticks to you once it has attacked.

After my very very very sweaty run I went to Publix with Ben’s mom. It’s our favorite thing! And we really cleaned out the store.

When we got back I was helping bring the groceries inside and told her she can just stay in the house and start sorting them. I would bring in the haul.

On my third trip I went to grab some bags and was startled by a frog who was hanging out on the car. I laughed because it scared me a little, which is kinda funny given he’s so little and cute. I called Ben to come outside and get him so I wouldn’t smash him when I went to close the trunk.

He tried to grab him, but the frog jumped away and into the car. We couldn’t leave him inside there for a few reasons, one of which is he would get cooked in the hot car all day! So I tried to take more pictures as Ben went to find him inside the back seat. When he was hiding on the car door near the handle we opened it carefully and I went to take a video of Ben as he scooped up our little green friend. He was kind of cute, and this was all so interesting to me – this doesn’t happen a lot where I’m from.

I was taking a video of the whole thing and the next thing you know…

Now I can’t seem to calm down. What the heck is my problem?! It’s like I know frogs aren’t really dangerous but I completely was scared and surprised and lost it.

Question: When was the last time you screamed like you were being attacked when it was really not a big deal?
