Rio 2016 Olympic Marathon

Hello! Happy Olympic Marathon Day!!!! Today was the big day – the Women’s Olympic Marathon! I woke up and sipped iced coffee while watching it online.

I was so into this and cheering them on like a weirdo talking to my computer.

At the end Flanagan and Linden hugging…

The US runners are: Shalane Flanagan, Desiree Davila and Amy Cragg.

USATF athletes: Amy Cragg (Leavenworth, Kansas), Desiree Linden (Chula Vista, California), Shalane Flanagan (Marblehead, Massachusetts)

USATF at-a-glance: Cragg is the two-time defending U.S. marathon champion and moves up from the Olympic 10,000m in 2012, while Linden is the 2011 Boston Marathon runner-up and Flanagan the 2008 Olympic bronze medalist in the 10,000m. It will be the second Olympic marathon for Flanagan and Linden. (source)

Rio 2016 Olympic Marathon Winners:

1. Jemima Sumgong from Kenya – 2:24:04

2. Eunice Kirwa running for Bahrain – 2:24:13

3. Mare Dibaba from Ethiopia – 2:24:30

The US women did AMAZING. They looked super strong even at the end. It was so inspiring! Congratulations to all!!!

In another part of the world I ran half as much five times as slow yesterday morning. So yeah, I have that going for me.

I had 12 miles at goal pace on the training schedule. But, I’m not at the fitness level to hit goal pace so I’ve had to adjust my goals to my current fitness. I’m really happy with how it felt though!

It was a gorgeous day in SoCal for running. It always is though….

Post-run I had a protein shake topped with nuts and cereal. It totally hit the spot!

A little while later I made a mixing bowl salad with everything in the fridge that was salad appropriate…

I also had a creamy strawberry popsicle. I stayed out late one night this week and hit the drive-through for a strawberry shake. I don’t know if I was super hungry or sleepy or what but it was so delicious! I keep thinking about that shake and want another one.

I grabbed a pack of these ice cream pops to satisfy my need for creamy strawberry-goodness. They are made by Healthy Choice and I recommend!

Then, I headed to my parent’s house for a little visit (by ‘visit’ I mean ‘raid their fridge and play with the puppies’).

First things first – I got more ice cream and relaxed with my book.

I am reading Run Fast Eat Slow and ironically ate ice cream while reading about super healthy recipes.

I also spent a lot of time trying to get a dog selfie. This resulted in a lot of sloppy puppy licks, paw marks on my clothes, nearly falling over as all the dogs came to get pets at the same time… and I loved every second.

Question: Did you watch the Olympic Marathon?

Get in a great run?

What have you been up to this weekend?
